The RyMickey Awards - Best Visual Effects

With the exception of these flicks, it was a lukewarm year for special effects.

Best Visual Effects 2009

Runner-up
#4 - The Hurt Locker

#3 - Star Trek
Very nice to see Star Trek back on the big screen. While there wasn't anything we haven't seen before on display, director J.J. Abrams executed everything superbly.

#2 - Terminator: Salvation
Although some of the effects in the end sequences didn't quite seem ideal (Ah-nuld's superimposed face on a terminator as an example), the kick-ass "one-shot" helicopter crash sequence is what lands this in second place.

#1 - Avatar
Is anyone surprised? James Cameron may not be able to write a perfect script, but he's a visual mastermind. Kudos to the pompous guy.
