The 2009 RyMickey Awards - Best Younger Actor/Actress

Quite a good year for younger stars under 21.

2009's Best Younger Actor/Actress

Runners-up
#8 - Max Records - Where the Wild Things Are
#7 - Devon Bostick - Adoration
#6 - Isabelle Fuhrman - Orphan

#5 - Bailee Madison - Brothers
Young Bailee had quite a role to undertake here and, like the rest of those on this list, she was given quite a script to work with. Both Bailee and the younger girl who plays her sister are critical in making this movie work -- certainly the two most believable "under 10" actresses I saw in movies this year.

#4 - Elle Fanning - Phoebe in Wonderland
Elle (Dakota's younger sister) carries this movie. There's an incredibly touching scene where the troubled child breaks down in tears in her mother's arms that really got to me. [Side Note: #5 Bailee Madison also stars in this film.]

#3 - Daryl Sabara - World's Greatest Dad
Playing an obnoxious prick isn't an easy task. While the former Spy Kid's role could certainly be seen as a tad over the top, his troubled porn-obsessed teen felt grounded in reality for some reason. Plus, his pivotal role causes quite a stir midway through the film.

#2 - Jennifer Lawrence - The Burning Plain
Fairly new to the acting game, Jennifer Lawrence shines in this riveting flick from the maker of Babel. Her role starts rather simplistically, but grows to be richly layered and intense.

#1 - Sofia Vassilieva - My Sister's Keeper
Were it not for Mo'Nique's stunning turn in Precious, Ms. Vassilieva (whom I had never seen in anything before) would be my pick for Best Supporting Actress of the year. I was utterly moved by her portrayal of a young terminal cancer patient. It's a shame that film isn't without its flaws, because Vassilieva is stellar and was certainly deserving of some type of accolade last year.
